Good news in our community!  Skillmation has just been asked to help find mentors for a great new program at Port Townsend High School. Thanks to the efforts and vision of Superintendent John Polm, Principal Carrie Ehrhardt and Health, Career & Life Skills teacher Jennifer Kruse, this coming fall, every 9th grader will participate in Community Mentors for Freshmen program.

This is a great leap forward in engaging the attention of our high school students when they first arrive as freshmen, rather than waiting until they are juniors or seniors.  This way they can get a head start on determining who they might want to be in this huge, amazing and confusing world when they graduate.

Jennifer Kruse explains there are about 50% of Port Townsend HS students who play catch up at the end of their junior year or even into their senior year trying to figure out what they want to do when they graduate. We can help these students graduate knowing what they want their next step to be and having positioned themselves to do it!

The program will have defined curricula and finite time commitments.  Mentors will meet with students 9 times over the course of the year, for 90 minutes. This translates to 13.5 hours from September through May, plus an initial 90 minute orientation, and a party Skillmation will throw to kick off this wonderful project!

This program hopes to find people from all walks of life and career paths: university/professional, trades/skilled workers, entrepreneur, arts, self-employed etc.  We need everyone's input and support!
